How to care for Skultuna products
Your Skultuna products are made to last – and with a little care, they can become cherished heirlooms to be proud of. Most of Skultuna's products are made from untreated brass – a living material that develops over time. Brass naturally patinas, which protects the metal and contributes to a long lifespan.

On the inside of vases and pots, this patina is desirable and should not be removed. On the outside, however, it's a matter of taste – some prefer a polished, high-gloss finish, while others appreciate the darker patina that develops over time. Note that unpolished brass can get spots from moisture or fingerprints.

If you want to maintain the shiny surface, we recommend regular polishing. We suggest wearing gloves, such as cotton ones, when polishing to avoid new fingerprints and preserve the shine longer.
Brass
Use a gentle polish with mild abrasive – we recommend Skultuna's Polish for best results, available at skultuna.com. Apply the product with a dry, soft cloth. For stubborn spots, you can let the polish sit for a moment before you start polishing.

Polish until the surface is shiny and the polish is completely removed. For best results, use small amounts of polish at a time and repeat the process as needed – this gives a more even and efficient polish than using too much at once.

Note that we do not recommend water-based polishes for polished brass, as they can leave spots if the surface is not dried very thoroughly.

Paraffin wax is best removed by heating the object with, for example, a hair dryer and wiping off the wax when it becomes soft. You can also use hot water but then dry the surface thoroughly and polish with polish to avoid spots.
Gold-plated brass
Wipe gently with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use polish, as it can wear or remove the gold plating.
Silver-plated brass
Silver reacts when it comes into contact with air, oxidizes and darkens over time. Silver-plated objects can be gently polished with a soft cloth.

Paraffin wax is best removed by rinsing the object in warm water. Dry the surface thoroughly afterwards and then polish. For a deeper and gentle cleaning, Skultuna recommends using the polish available at skultuna.com.
Brushed brass with matte finish
Polish like regular brass, but wipe thoroughly in the direction of the brushing to avoid polish residue on the surface. We recommend Skultuna's Polish, available at skultuna.com.
Blackened brass
Wipe with a damp cloth for regular cleaning. If wax or paraffin has stuck on, you can gently heat the candlestick with warm water and then remove the wax/paraffin.

Regardless of surface treatment, brass should never be washed in a dishwasher or exposed to strong cleaning agents or dish soap as this can damage the surface.
Care instructions
Etched brass
Polish as usual with a dry, soft cloth. If the polish gets stuck in the small holes, take the cloth and gently press from both sides to remove it. We recommend Skultuna's Polish, which is available at skultuna.com.
Candlesticks & Candle holders
Never leave lit candles unattended. There should be at least 7 cm between two lit candles. Do not let a candle burn down in a candlestick, but extinguish it before it reaches the candle holder. Metal conducts heat, so never place a candlestick on a delicate surface. Never move a burning candle, but extinguish the candle first.
Vases & Pots
Keep the outside dry to reduce the need for polishing. When refilling with water, wipe off any spills or condensation immediately to avoid stains on the outside. Do not place the pot on delicate surfaces, as stains can occur if there is moisture under the pot (moisture can also form through condensation). Use a saucer underneath if you are unsure. If you want to keep the inside shiny, use a tight inner pot with a saucer underneath.
Jewelry
Enameled and gold-plated jewelry: We recommend that you clean with water and mild soap, and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Silver-plated items: Use a special silver cleaning product, such as a silver polishing cloth. We recommend that you avoid your jewelry coming into contact with perfume, baths, pool or sea water. Leather parts: Leather is a natural material, so avoid using household cleaning liquid. Try to keep the leather dry at all times, and if it gets wet, let it dry naturally. Wet leather can also discolor, especially when new. Avoid letting wet leather come into contact with clothes/fabrics that may be sensitive. The color of the leather may change over time as it absorbs oils from the skin, which is completely normal.
About Production, Materials & Service
To maintain the breadth of our range, Skultuna has chosen to work with specialists in various production techniques. Skultuna therefore works with a select few world-leading subcontractors for the manufacture of products and components. At the Skultuna factory, final processing takes place, including polishing, grinding, engraving, and assembly.

Skultuna's brass has been a unique alloy since ancient times, containing approximately 63% copper and 37% zinc, giving it a perfect golden color. Silver plating of brass products is carried out manually in Sweden, where a thick layer of silver is applied over the brass.

Skultuna carries out careful ongoing inspections of the materials in its products and actively works to comply with the REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. The main objective of the legislation is to protect human health and the environment from the risks of chemicals.

We hope you will appreciate your Skultuna product and that it will bring you joy for many years to come.
